Culturisme is an old French word, synonymous with bodybuilding, it has been chosen as a play on the word "culture".
Culturisme is a humorous take on the concept of perfect body and is questioning the evolution of modern aesthetics standards.
This set of images, put side to side, works as a comparison between the representation of the body of the athletes in the antic and neo- classical culture, so far the universal aesthetical reference, and the hypertrophied musculatures of bodybuilders who, with the help of new training techniques and modern sciences, bring the human body to a new perfection.
Alors que le fitness est devenu un phénomène mondial, « Culturisme » se propose de questionner l’évolution du concept de corps parfait.
Cette série d’images étudie, selon un mode comparatif, les différences entre le corps des athlètes de l’époque classique et néo-classique, jusqu’alors référents esthétiques universels, et les musculatures hypertrophiées des bodybuilders qui, à l’aide de nouvelles techniques d'entraÎnement et de la science moderne, poussent le corps vers une perfection inédite.
